List of Phones That WhatsApp Will Stop Working On In 2020

In this guide, you will find the list of phones that WhatsApp will stop working on in 2020.

As that suggests, you need a new phone.

And if you want to know how to export your WhatsApp files from an old phone to a new one, you can also find the answer here.

For almost three months now, I have been receiving an end of support notice on my Nokia Lumia phone which is ran on Windows Operating System (OS).

WhatsApp – Windows End of Support Notice with effect from December 31, 2019.

The WhatsApp’s end of support notice has been confirmed on the FAQ Support Page of the Facebook-owned WhatsApp that users will no longer be able to access WhatsApp on millions of older phones.

The note reads,

You’ll no longer be able to use all Windows Phone Operating Systems after December 31, 2019, and WhatsApp might not be available in the Microsoft Store after July 1, 2019.WhatsApp

This doesn’t mean your phone is condemned or can’t do other things.

As WhatsApp continues to improve on its user experience, it claims that it would continue to remove its support for older phones which don’t have the capacity to bear new features it plans to add to the instant messaging app in the nearest future.

Now the app detectives at WABetaInfo have found a clever new feature which should allow dark mode to bring even more light to your life.Jeff Parsons

Jeff notes that the company has embarked on how it can reduce battery usage while users are running the app on their phones.

In the coming weeks, WhatsApp has decided to withdraw its support for the following phones:

  1. Android versions 2.3.7 and older: If you’re using Android 2.3.7 or below, the end of support will affect you. Until now, you can upgrade to any newer Android versions to continue enjoying WhatsApp.
  2. iOS 8 and older versions: This implies that if you’re using iPhone 5S, made in 2013 or iPhone 5C, made in 2014, you’re going to be affected. These two phones were running on iOS 7 and iOS 8 respectively. You won’t have any issue if you upgrade to any iPhone that came after these ones.
  3. All Windows Phone Operating Systems: Microsoft initially started with Windows mobile in 2013 until 2010. When the company found out that iOS and Android were taking over, it tried to improve on its system. It launched its Windows Phone OS to compete with others but that also failed. As it is now, WhatsApp is finally removing its support for Windows OS.

For the affected android and iOS phones, note that the end of support will take effect on February 1st, 2020. And for the windows phones, users will see the end of WhatsApp on their phones by the end of year 2019.

This is not the first time WhatsApp would end its support for older phones. It has been happening as far back as 2017.

For example, its support for Nokia Symbian S60 ended in December 31, 2017, BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10, ended December 31, 2018 respectively.

WhatsApp’s intention is to improve its services on phones that are widely in use. This was said to justify its routinely end of support for older phones.
